The University of Hong Kong (“HKU”) has counted on the support of friends and benefactors for its advancement since its inception.
The UK Friends of HKU was initiated by HKU alumni in the UK and registered as a charity in the UK with Registered Charity Number 1178832. For tax purposes, UK Friends of HKU is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The mission of the UK Friends of HKU is to support the advancement of education connected with HKU and its past and present students. It facilitates donations from organisations and individuals in the UK to support the various development programmes of HKU.
The purpose of this privacy notice is to explain how HKU and UK Friends of HKU (“we”) hold and use personal data about donors and alumni (“you”), and how such data are used for the purposes of fundraising and alumni and supporter relations.
We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what information we hold.
Information we collect
We may collect information about you from a number of sources: directly from you when you make a donation to UK Friends of HKU or HKU direct; alumni information that you provide to HKU during your ongoing relationship with HKU; and/or from publicly available sources.
We may hold and process the following types of personal data about you:

How we use your data
Your data will be used by us for maintaining contact, updating you with the latest developments of HKU and UK Friends of HKU, and the provision of information, for example, University news, activities, giving initiatives, courses and programmes.

How we protect your data
HKU and UK Friends of HKU will not disclose any personal information to external bodies unless you have been informed or we are required to do so by law.
We will retain your data indefinitely in support of your lifelong relationship with HKU or until you request us to do otherwise.
We will publish on our website any changes we make to this data protection statement.

Depending on the circumstances and the nature of your request it may not be possible for us to do what you have asked, for example, where it would make us unable to fulfil our legal obligations if we were to stop.
